1984 is the most famous television commercial which introduced to the world for the first time. It is now considered “masterpiece” in AD field.

When I attended the 20th conference at San Francisco in 2004, showed us a New edition of 1984. The different is the girl equiped herself with a iPod.

In the 2008 Democratic Party primaries, 1984 was reposted again, This time Senator Hillary Clinton was alluded as “Big Brother”.

1. The inspiration of 1984 were originally from George Orwell’s noted novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, which described a dystopian future ruled by a televised “Big Brother.”

2. Anya Major, who acted as the unnamed heroine in 1984, was a former discus thrower, She won the role with her ability to handle the hammer convincingly.

3. Anya Major weared the typical athletic uniform, But the special thing is the Picasso-style picture of ’s computer on her waist.

4. The commercial was created by the advertising agency Chiat/Day, The famous director Ridley Scott (who had just finished filming Blade Runner) was hired to direct it with the “unheard-of production budget of $900,000.”.

5. The TV Commercial was filmed at London’s Shepperton Studios and Hyde Park. To play the part of the despondent, baldheaded workers, Ridley Scott recruited British skinheads and paid amateurs $125 a day to shave off their hair.

6. Ridley Scott insisited to give Bigbrother some lines. The famous harangue of Big Brother made deep impression to people. And let everybody think Big Brother was alluded as IBM:

“My friends, each of you is a single cell in the great body of the State. And today, that great body has purged itself of parasites. We have triumphed over the unprincipled dissemination of facts. The thugs and wreckers have been cast out. And the poisonous weeds of disinformation have been consigned to the dustbin of history. Let each and every cell rejoice! For today we celebrate the first, glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directive! We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology, where each worker may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of Thought is a more powerful weapon than any fleet or army on Earth! We are one people. With one will. One resolve. One cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death. And we will bury them with their own confusion! We shall prevail!”

7. 1984 was formally aired to an audience of 96 million in the third quarter of Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984, But on order to qualify for that year’s advertising awards. Chiat/Day paid $10 to run 1984 on December 15, 1983, at a small television station named KMVT in Twin Falls, Idaho.

8. & loved the crazy idea of 1984, But the other members of ’s board of directors hated this TV Commercial.

9. At the same time 1984 aired, spent more than $2.5 million to buy all 40 pages of advertising in the special 1984 election issue of Newsweek magazine.

10. A.C. Nielson estimated that 1984 reached 46.4% of the households, more than 50% of the men, and 36% of the women in America. The commercial recorded astronomical recall scores and went on to win the Grand Prize of Cannes as well as over 30 other advertising industry awards.
